Webinar 6: Integrating Respectful Maternity Care into Quality Improvement Initiatives

The sixth webinar in this series focused on quality improvement, specifically respectful maternity care, and we heard about implementers’ experiences across the globe. We were pleased to collaborate with the Maternal Health Task Force (MHTF) at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health for this webinar; the MHTF ensures that individuals have access to current evidence through their knowledge management system, identifies opportunities for the maternal health community, and trains and mentors upcoming maternal health leaders.

The objectives of this webinar were to:
1. Review the WHO Safe Childbirth Checklist as a quality improvement tool
2. Learn the basic principles and issues related to respectful maternity care
3. Understand how respectful maternity care relates to quality of care more generally, as well as improved maternal health outcomes
4. Explore strategies for integrating respectful maternity care into quality improvement initiatives from case studies around the world

Webinar 5: Implementing Checklists for Quality Improvement: Monitoring and Evaluation

The fifth webinar in this series focused on monitoring and evaluation as a critical aspect of successful checklist implementation. It can assist implementers with understanding how program activities are progressing as well as be a way to provide ongoing learning and adaptation. We shared such experiences from implementation sites in Gobabis, Namibia and Uttar Pradesh, India.

The objectives of this webinar were to:
1. Understand what is monitoring and evaluation and why it is important
2. Share practical examples of how to set metrics and collect data
3. Hear from two checklist implementers about their experience with monitoring and evaluation

Webinar 4: Implementing Checklists for Quality Improvement: Coaching

The fourth webinar in this series provided an introduction to coaching as a critical aspect of successful checklist implementation. Panelists discussed what coaching is and is not, how to have an effective coaching session, and how to give feedback. We also heard from team members based in India and their experiences with this step along the implementation pathway.

The overall objectives of the webinar were to:
1. Provide an introduction to how coaching can be used during a quality improvement program
2. Share practical examples of coaching and explore how to overcome challenges
3. Have an interactive dialogue with participants on coaching strategies

Webinar 3: Implementing Checklists for Quality Improvement: Best Practices Along the Implementation Pathway - Launch

Webinar 2: Implementing Checklists for Quality Improvement: Best Practices Along the Along the Implementation Pathway - Engage

Description: Ariadne Labs has developed tools including checklists for childbirth, surgery, and serious illness that have resulted in measurable improvements in patient care, and are now being adopted by private sector partners, governmental organizations, and health systems worldwide. We are pleased to present the second webinar in this interactive webinar series dedicated towards sharing lessons learned in checklist implementation for quality improvement. The first webinar held in June 2016 presented the Safe Childbirth Checklist and Implementation Pathway and featured Dr. Leonard Kabongo, an obstetrician and quality improvement champion from Gobabis, Namibia.

The second webinar in this series explored the first step of the Implementation Pathway, ‘Engage’, and lessons learned in effectively preparing to implement. This webinar featured Dr. Rosemary Ogu’s experience implementing the Safe Childbirth Checklist in Port Harcourt, Nigeria.

Webinar 1: Implementing Checklists at Ariadne Labs: The Namibian Experience using the WHO Safe Childbirth Checklist

Description: Ariadne Labs has developed tools including checklists for childbirth, surgery, and serious illness that have resulted in measurable improvements in patient care, and are now being adopted by private sector partners, governmental organizations, and health systems worldwide. We are pleased to launch this interactive webinar series dedicated towards sharing lessons learned in checklist implementation for quality improvement. This first webinar engaged voices from the field to discuss the WHO Safe Childbirth Checklist and featured Dr. Leonard Kabongo, an obstetrician and quality improvement champion from Gobabis, Namibia. Our leading experts in checklist design and use joined us to facilitate an engaging session drawing on lessons learned across 30 countries that have used the WHO Safe Childbirth Checklist. Through this webinar, we collectively generated ideas and innovation for future quality improvement implementation efforts.
